Before we start planning all the exciting content we’re going to create in 2027, can we talk about what’s already happening on your Instagram? 📲

Because between posting reels, sharing before-and-afters, keeping up with stories, and trying to figure out what Instagram wants from us this week (😂), it’s easy to forget to actually LOOK at the content we’ve been putting out.

And I don’t mean checking how many followers you’ve gained.

I’m talking about whether your Instagram is helping potential patients discover your practice, understand your services, and feel excited about booking with you.

The end of the year is the PERFECT time for a little Instagram refresh!

So, before you start filling up that 2027 content calendar, let’s go through a simple Instagram content audit for aesthetic practices to see what’s working, what could use a little attention, and what you can do differently next year.

1. First Things First… Let’s Look at Your Instagram Bio

Open your Instagram profile and pretend you’re someone discovering your practice for the very first time.

Can you immediately tell what you offer, where you’re located, and how to book an appointment?

Because your bio has a pretty important job!

Here’s what I’d check:

  • Does your name field include your specialty or services?
  • Is your city or service area easy to find?
  • Does your bio explain what makes your practice unique?
  • Is your booking link working and easy to access?

And while you’re there, look at your profile picture and contact information, too.

A few little updates can make your Instagram profile much more helpful for potential patients.

Your 2027 refresh: Make sure your bio clearly communicates who you are, what you offer, and where people can find you.

2. Take a Look at Your Last 12 Instagram Posts

Okay, this is where things get interesting!

Scroll through your last twelve posts.

What do you notice?

Are you sharing a good mix of content, or are most of your posts focused on the same thing?

For example, if you’re an injector, your feed might be filled with Botox and filler before-and-afters.

Which is great! But are you also answering patient questions, introducing yourself, and explaining your approach to treatments?

I’d love to see a mix of three types of content:

Educational: Treatment information, skincare tips, FAQs, and helpful advice.

Connection: Behind-the-scenes moments, team introductions, and posts that show your personality.

Promotional: Appointment reminders, service highlights, consultations, and seasonal offerings.

And if your feed leans heavily toward one category, that’s okay!

Now you know where you can add a little variety.

Our guide on what to post on Instagram as an aesthetic practice has plenty of ideas to help you mix things up.

3. Which Posts Did Your Audience Actually Love?

Here’s something I want you to try before planning another month of content.

Go look at your Instagram insights!

Open your Professional Dashboard and review your recent content performance.

Instagram lets you examine metrics such as views, reach, interactions, and individual post performance.

And while likes are nice, I’d pay particular attention to:

  • Saves: Which educational posts did people want to reference later?
  • Shares: What content encouraged people to send it to someone else?
  • Comments: Which topics started conversations?
  • Profile activity: Which posts encouraged people to learn more about your practice?

Now find your five strongest posts.

Do they have anything in common?

Maybe your audience loves skincare education. Maybe your talking-to-camera reels perform well. Or maybe your provider introductions create the most conversations.

That’s information you can actually USE!

Your 2027 refresh: Choose three successful content topics or formats to bring into your January content plan.

4. Are You Showing Up in Local Instagram Searches?

Let’s talk about Instagram SEO for a second. 🔍

Because attracting thousands of views is exciting, but reaching people who could realistically become patients is especially valuable.

Take a look at how often you’re mentioning your location and services.

Does your content include searchable phrases like:

  • Botox in [City]
  • [City] esthetician
  • Dermatologist in [City]
  • Plastic surgery consultation in [City]

And no, you don’t need to squeeze your city into every caption!

Just incorporate it naturally when it makes sense, use relevant location tags, and make sure your profile clearly identifies your practice.

Your goal is to make it easier for nearby patients to discover what you offer.

5. Let’s Check Your Reels, Carousels, and Stories

Here’s a question.

Are you using different Instagram formats, or have you gotten comfortable posting the same type of content every week?

And listen, I get it. Once you find something that’s easy to create, it’s tempting to stick with it!

But each format gives you a different opportunity to connect with your audience. The reels are great for introducing your practice, answering questions, and reaching new people.

Carousels work beautifully for educational content, treatment guides, and helpful tips.

Stories give you space to share more casual moments, answer questions, and remind followers about appointments.

If you’ve barely used stories this year, maybe that’s something you’d like to incorporate more often in 2027.

Or if you’re constantly posting graphics but never showing your face, try adding a few simple talking-to-camera reels.

6. Is Your Instagram Making It Easy to Book?

This is SUCH an important part of your content audit!

You could have beautiful branding, amazing treatment photos, and the most educational posts in your area.

But can someone easily figure out how to schedule an appointment?

Take a look at your Instagram from a potential patient’s perspective.

Is your booking link easy to find?

Do your highlights explain what to expect during consultations?

Are you occasionally reminding your audience about your services and appointment availability?

And are you giving people a natural next step in your captions?

Not every post needs to say “BOOK NOW!”

Sometimes something as simple as “Have questions about this treatment? We’d love to help!” is enough to encourage a conversation.

Your 2027 refresh: Review your booking process and make sure potential patients know exactly what to do next.

7. Be Realistic About Your Content Schedule

Now for the part that can make the biggest difference in how your 2027 content plan actually goes.

How consistent were you this year?

And more importantly, did your posting schedule work for your life and your practice?

Because if you planned to post five times a week but regularly struggled to keep up, maybe it’s time to try something a little more manageable.

For many aesthetic practices, two to three quality posts per week, along with regular stories, can be a great starting point.

You can always adjust based on your goals, audience, and resources.

The important thing is choosing a routine you can realistically maintain.

We talk more about building a manageable schedule in why aesthetic practices struggle to post consistently.
