Nobody tells you this, so I will. 📱
Most “bad” content isn’t bad content. It’s good content filmed on default settings.
Your phone shipped with settings optimized for battery life and storage, not for making your treatment room look expensive. Fifteen minutes of adjusting fixes more than any ring light ever could.
Go grab your phone. We’re doing this together.
Turn On Grid Lines First
Settings → Camera → Grid ✅
This is the single most underrated of all the iPhone settings for content creation.
Grid lines keep your horizon straight and help you place yourself off center, which instantly looks more intentional. Because crooked footage reads as amateur before anyone processes what you’re saying.
Thirty seconds, permanent improvement.
Record in 4K at 60fps
Settings → Camera → Record Video → 4K at 60 fps 🎬
Yes, files get bigger. Worth it anyway.
Higher resolution means you can crop, zoom, and reframe later without your footage falling apart. Plus, slow motion actually looks good instead of choppy.
If storage is tight, drop to 4K at 30fps. Still a massive upgrade over the default.
Enable Mirror Front Camera
Settings → Camera → Mirror Front Camera 🪞
Ever film a selfie video, watch it back, and feel like something’s off? That’s this setting.
Turning it on saves your footage the way you saw it while filming. Small thing, immediately less jarring.
Lock Your Exposure and Focus
This one isn’t a settings change, it’s a habit. 💡
Tap and hold on your face until AE/AF LOCK appears. Then slide your finger up or down to brighten or darken.
Now your video won’t randomly shift brightness mid sentence when someone walks past a window. That flickering is what makes content look homemade.
Clean the Lens
Genuinely. Right now. ✨
Your phone lives in pockets, purses, and treatment rooms. A quick wipe with your shirt eliminates about half of all blurry footage.
Nobody believes this matters until they compare two clips side by side.
Use Your Back Camera Whenever Possible
Your rear camera is dramatically better than your front one. 📸
So prop your phone against something, frame yourself with the timer, and film blind. It takes one extra take to get comfortable.
The quality jump is significant, and it costs nothing.
Turn Off HDR for Video
Settings → Camera → Record Video → HDR Video (off) 🔧
HDR looks lovely on your phone and often looks strange everywhere else, especially after Instagram compresses it.
Turning it off keeps your colors consistent across devices. Fewer surprises after posting.
Add Camera to Your Lock Screen Shortcut
Content dies from friction. ⚡
Settings → Control Center and make sure camera access is one swipe away. Better yet, use the Action Button if your phone has one.
Because the moment you wanted to capture will be gone in the twenty seconds it takes to unlock and navigate.
Create a “Content” Album
Photos → New Album → Content 📂
Every clip you film goes here immediately. Now your content lives in one place instead of buried between client photos and screenshots.
For a fuller system, How to Build a Content Bank So You Never Stare at a Blank Screen Again takes this concept further.
Do This Before Your Next Client
Nine iPhone settings for content creation, all free, all permanent. 🙌
Grid, 4K, mirror, exposure lock, clean lens, back camera, HDR off, quick access, content album.
Set a timer for fifteen minutes and knock them out. Then film something today and watch the difference.
